One option you may consider if new tiles aren’t an affordable option; is regrouting the tiles for new appeal.
Its quick, cost effective and is assured to breathe new life into your tiles whether it be your patio, balcony or outside tiled walkway area.
Why do you need grout on outdoor tiles?
Grout is an essential component for any tiled area both inside and outside the home protecting and sealing your tiles against moisture. However, grout can act as a magnet for dirt to build up if you are not careful to wash and maintain your tiles regularly.
There is also the potential, especially if left untreated, or maintained - that the grout will begin to crumble, and eventually leads to lose, or even uneven tiles, creating a potential trip hazard as well as waterproofing problems.
The best way to re-grout tiles
The good news is that with a few specialist tools, such as a grout remover, together with a few other suitable outdoor grout products, you can re-grout in no time at all, or request a quotation from Men@WorX, who will gladly assist.
Firstly, using the grout rake, Men@WorX will remove all of the old grout so we are able to refill the grout lines. This can be time consuming but it’s worth investing that bit of extra time getting everything out, especially in those hard-to-reach areas like corners, if you want to achieve the desired result.
Once Men@WorX has removed all the old grout, we continue to thoroughly clean the grout lines with stiff brushes before sweeping up, and giving the area a soft hand wash to rinse all debris, allowing drying time before regrouting begins.
Once the tiled area is clean, and dry we refill the grout lines with waterproofed and a water-repellent grout suitable for grouting 20mm x 8mm, which mixes easily with water, and has excellent workability.
Other options to consider when re-grouting
The first is to dry grout using coarse or sharp sand between tiles. This is relatively straightforward but can appear slightly rough-looking when finished and has proven not to last as long as other options i.e. the dry mix or resin compound.
The more popular common patio pointing mix, which is a combination of cement and sand, which is then left to harden between the joints is also an option to consider.
It would be worth a look at a ready-made jointing compound mix consisting of resin or polymeric mortar, which is simply brushed with grout into the joints and left for up to 48 hours to fully dry.
